Being digital replicas of Badniks in Cyber Space, Spiny is disintegrated into the air in tiny digital pieces after its defeat without containing Animal inside them. Spiny is easily defeated by using one of Sonic's basic moves such as Spin Jump or Homing Attack. Spiny fires a single, slowly moving projectile in 2.5D stages when the player is approaching towards them, while in 3D stages the amount of projectiles varies between three to five based on the stage. They are present in stages 1-5, 2-2, 3-7 and 4-6, moving back and forth in linear pattern either singular or in groups. In this game, they retain their appearance from Sonic Colors. In Sonic Frontiers, Spiny appears as one of enemies exclusive to the Cyber Space stages. Spiny being defeated in 1-5, from Sonic Frontiers Also, whenever a Spiny is destroyed, it releases an Animal and grants the player 100 points. In gameplay, the Spiny Badniks slowly crawl along the ground or wall and periodically spout projectiles, just like in their debut game. In these games, they only appear in Chemical Plant Zone. As far as designs go, they look virtually identical to how they were presented in Sonic the Hedgehog 2. In Sonic Mania, and its expansion Sonic Mania Plus, the Spiny Badniks appear as enemies. When Modern Sonic attacks Spiny Badniks with the Boost or Homing Attack in Chemical Plant Act 2, they will display a sad look on their faces one second before getting destroyed. While the Spiny Badniks demonstrate their typical attack patters of firing a single energy projectile in Chemical Plant Act 1, they also appear in the open 3D areas in Chemical Plant Act 2 where they can easily be destroyed with the Boost. Unlike in Sonic Colors though, they can be destroyed normally. In gameplay, they possess the same attack patterns from previous installments. In the console/ PC version of Sonic Generations, Spiny Badniks from somewhere across spacetime appear as enemies in both Acts of Chemical Plant. While these Badniks cannot be Homing Attacked, they can still be destroyed by jumping into them. Also, like in their previous appearances, the Spiny Badniks attack by shooting projectiles, although these projectiles pop out and move much slower than in past games. In gameplay, they normally move along walls. In this game, they are enemies that can be found in Starlight Carnival and Asteroid Coaster. In the Wii version of Sonic Colors, and the remaster Sonic Colors: Ultimate, Spiny Badniks received a slight redesign. On at least one occasion, the Spinies were also known to feature a lavender-colored paint work instead of the usual red. From the Wisp incident onward, they received menacing, black eyes with cyan sclera. The original Spiny model had two cartoonish eyes with yellow sclera. The standard Spiny is mainly gray in color, with a bit of red mixed in, especially around the spout region. Around this spout prong out several triangular metal flaps which can unfold like a flower blooming. Their body is very small, with two photo-receptors jammed close together near a red spout at the top of their bodies. They scuttle about using five grippers located on their underside. The Spinies are modeled after sea urchins. 2.2 Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket AdventureĪ Spiny from the West Side Island incident, from Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
